Getting started
What is Aldgate Pay?
Aldgate Pay is a payment gateway for online businesses. It connects your checkout to cards, digital wallets, bank transfers and local payment methods through one integration, so customers in different countries can pay the way they prefer.
Who is Aldgate Pay for?
Online businesses that sell to customers in more than one country, or plan to. That includes ecommerce and fashion brands, SaaS and subscription companies, digital goods and gaming, marketplaces, travel and hospitality, and education and professional services.
Can I use Aldgate Pay if I only sell in one country today?
Yes. Many merchants start with their home market and add countries as they grow. Because you connect once, switching on a new market later does not mean a new integration.
What makes Aldgate Pay different from other payment providers?
Three things. We shape each setup and proposal around your business instead of a standard tariff, you get a named contact who knows your account, and one integration gives you cards alongside the local methods shoppers in each market actually use.
How do I get started?
Complete the merchant application on our homepage. It takes about five minutes and asks about your company, what you sell, your volumes, your markets and how you want to connect. We review it and come back with a tailored proposal.
Can I speak to someone before I apply?
Yes. Use the request a call form to choose days and times that suit you, or email pay@aldgatepay.com. There is no obligation.
Is there a free trial?
We do not offer a trial account, but there is no cost to apply or to receive a proposal. Once approved you can test your integration in a sandbox before taking live payments.
Onboarding and approval
What information do I need for the merchant application?
Your legal company name, country of incorporation, website, industry, a description of what you sell, whether you sell to consumers or businesses, expected monthly volume, average transaction value, the countries you sell to, the payment methods you want and how you would like to connect.
What documents will you ask for after I apply?
Typically company registration documents, details of directors and beneficial owners with identification, proof of business address, your website terms and refund policy, and where you already take payments, recent processing statements. We tell you exactly what is needed for your business.
Why do you need to know about my owners and directors?
Payment providers must verify who they work with under anti money laundering and know your customer rules. These checks protect you, your customers and the payment system.
How long does approval take?
It depends mainly on how quickly documents are supplied and how complex the business is. Straightforward applications with complete documents move quickly. Your named contact keeps you updated at every stage.
Can my application be declined?
Yes. Some business types are not supported and some need extra review. Our acceptable use policy lists prohibited and restricted activities. If we cannot help, we tell you clearly rather than leaving you waiting.
Can I apply if my company is newly formed?
Yes, new companies can apply. Without processing history we may look more closely at your business model, website and projected volumes, and this can shape your proposal.
Do I need a company in every country I sell to?
No. You can sell into many countries from your own company. Local entities are not required to accept payments from customers abroad.
Can I apply if I am a sole trader?
Please get in touch first. Eligibility depends on your country, sector and volumes, and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
Is my application saved if I leave the page?
Yes. Your answers are saved in your own browser on that device until you submit, so you can come back and finish later. We never receive a draft until you press submit.
Payment methods and coverage
Which payment methods can I offer?
Cards such as Visa and Mastercard, digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, bank transfers, buy now pay later and local methods such as iDEAL, Bancontact, BLIK, PIX, UPI, mada and KNET. Our licensed processing partner offers more than 150 methods.
Which countries can my customers pay from?
Our processing partner reaches customers in more than 200 countries. Availability of specific methods in each country depends on your sector and risk profile and is confirmed in your proposal.
How do I know which payment methods I need?
Use our payment method finder. Pick the countries you sell to and it shows the methods shoppers there use most. We also advise on the right mix during onboarding.
Why should I offer local payment methods and not just cards?
In many countries shoppers prefer or trust a local method more than a card. If their usual way to pay is missing, many leave at checkout. Adding the right local methods is one of the simplest ways to convert more international customers.
Can I add more payment methods later?
Yes. Methods and markets can be switched on as you grow through the same integration, subject to approval for your business.
Do you support buy now, pay later?
Buy now pay later options such as Klarna, and in the Gulf Tabby and Tamara, can be included where they suit your business and market. Availability is confirmed in your proposal.
Do you support Apple Pay and Google Pay?
Yes, digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay can be offered alongside cards, which helps mobile shoppers pay quickly.
Can customers pay in their own currency?
Yes. You can show prices and take payment in your customer's currency. Supported currencies are set out in your proposal.
Pricing and fees
How much does Aldgate Pay cost?
Pricing depends on what you sell, where you sell, your volumes and the methods you need, so we do not publish a single price list. Every merchant receives a tailored proposal that sets out all fees clearly before anything is signed.
What fees are included in a proposal?
A one time setup fee, transaction rates by payment method and market, any monthly minimum based on your processed volume, and your settlement and payout terms. Any other charges that could apply are listed too.
Why don't you publish your prices?
A generic tariff rarely fits real businesses. Two merchants with the same volume can have very different payment mixes and risk profiles. A tailored proposal lets us price fairly for your situation.
Is there a monthly minimum?
Some merchants have a monthly minimum, depending on processed volume. If it applies to you, it is stated clearly in your proposal.
Does it cost anything to apply?
No. Applying and receiving a proposal are free and carry no obligation.
Can pricing change as my business grows?
Yes. As your volumes and history develop, your named contact can review your pricing with you.
Settlement and payouts
When do I get paid?
Your payout schedule is agreed during onboarding and set out in your proposal. It depends on your business profile, risk assessment and the payment methods you accept.
In which currency will I be paid?
Your settlement currency is agreed in your proposal. Many merchants choose to be paid in their main operating currency, such as EUR, GBP or USD.
Will I receive one payout for all payment methods?
Settlement and reporting are consolidated across methods and markets, so your finance team works from one set of numbers instead of reconciling several providers.
Is there a rolling reserve?
Some businesses, depending on sector and risk profile, may have part of their funds held for a period as a reserve. If this applies to you, it is explained in your proposal before you sign.
How do refunds work?
You can refund customers through the platform. Refunds are returned using the original payment method where the method supports it, and appear in your reporting.
Integration and technical
How do I connect Aldgate Pay to my website?
Choose from a hosted checkout, a plugin for platforms such as Shopify or WooCommerce, or our REST API for full control. We recommend the right option during onboarding.
What is the quickest way to go live?
The hosted checkout is usually quickest. Your customers are redirected to a secure, branded payment page and returned to your site after paying, with little development needed.
Do you have plugins for ecommerce platforms?
Plugins are available for popular platforms such as Shopify and WooCommerce. Tell us your platform in the application and we confirm the best route.
Do you have an API?
Yes. A REST API with idempotency keys and signed webhooks lets your developers create payments, handle refunds and receive status updates.
Is there a test environment?
Yes. You receive test keys and sandbox access so your team can build and test safely before going live.
Can the checkout carry my brand?
Yes. The hosted checkout can carry your brand and works on desktop and mobile.
Do you support subscriptions and recurring payments?
Yes. Recurring billing lets you charge customers on a schedule, which suits SaaS, memberships and subscription products.
Can I switch from my current payment provider?
Yes. Many merchants move to us to add local methods or get better support. We help you plan the switch so your customers are not disrupted.
Security and compliance
Is Aldgate Pay secure?
Yes. Payments run on the PCI DSS compliant infrastructure of our licensed processing partner, every page and form is encrypted, and each payment is screened for fraud before approval.
Do I need to be PCI compliant?
You still have PCI DSS obligations, but with the hosted checkout they are much smaller because card details are captured on our partner's certified infrastructure and never touch your servers.
Do you support 3D Secure 2?
Yes. 3D Secure 2 provides strong customer authentication, which is required for many card payments in Europe and the UK, while keeping friction low for genuine customers.
How is my data protected?
We collect only what we need to assess and support your account, send it over encrypted connections and handle it as described in our privacy notice.
Who processes the payments?
Payments are processed by our licensed processing partner. Aldgate Pay manages your onboarding, setup and relationship, and your named contact is your point of support.
Fraud and chargebacks
How do you prevent fraud?
Every transaction is scored before it is authorised, with rules tuned to your market and sector. The aim is to block fraud without turning away good customers.
What is a chargeback?
A chargeback happens when a customer disputes a payment with their bank and the bank reverses it. The merchant can respond with evidence that the payment was valid.
Do you help with chargebacks?
Yes. Disputes are flagged as soon as they arrive, with deadline tracking and help preparing your evidence.
How can I reduce chargebacks?
Use clear product descriptions, a visible refund policy, a recognisable billing descriptor, prompt customer service and delivery tracking. Your named contact can review your setup with you.
What happens if my chargeback rate is high?
Card schemes monitor chargeback levels. If yours rise, we work with you on the causes early. Persistent high levels can lead to restrictions, which is why early action matters.
Support and your account
Who will I deal with day to day?
Your named contact, who knows your account, your history and your plans. You speak to the same person rather than a ticket queue.
How do I contact support?
Email pay@aldgatepay.com or contact your named contact directly once you are onboarded.
What languages do you support?
Our website is available in English, Dutch and Arabic, and our team can support merchants in English. Ask about other languages during onboarding.
Can I close my account?
Yes. Notice periods and any conditions are set out in your merchant agreement.
